We booked this one very last minute on a whim travelling from Paris, and it turned out to be the best decision we made. We only booked for the 1 night, as we knew we wanted to get further South in France, as-well as Andorra and Barcelona, so time was of the essence. With 11 Private Parking spaces inside the Hotel Grounds, you won’t have any issues in parking a car. Parking comes at a cost of 11eu p/day but is secured behind locked gates.

After parking the Car, we had our most friendly check-in so far on the Road Trip. The gentlemen promptly got us checked in, handed us a City Map and was fast to point out all the best sights to see, and places to adventure for Food and Drink. The fact his English was fluent was really helpful to us being two lone soldiers touring Europe with minimal translation skills other than Google Translate when we have Internet.

We were told we had been given a larger room due to it being available and was handed the keys, and city map ready to explore. The room was amazing. It was light and airy, and covered in Purple from floor to ceiling. It almost felt as if somebody had called in advance and explained our favourite colour was Cadbury Purple (we even had it at our Wedding).

A double bed with a headboard canvas showcasing the views in Lyon. The room was equipped with a Kettle and an array of Teas and Coffees. A little mini-fridge in the corner was a nice touch, knowing we could cool a few cans of San Pellegrino down from the car where they’d become warm to say the least.

The Bathroom was where it got very exciting. The wall tiles were just asking to be touched. Some kind of white embossed 3D texture I was in heaven! Subtle fixtures such as Plugs that go inside themselves when our Macs were plugged in and very modern lights flooded the room. The best thing of it all was the Rain Shower. A large square shower head and I knew it was going to be a good nights sleep. Hotel des Savoies 10/10 for your Bathroom!

After exploring the sights of Lyon, most notably the best stop-off was the La Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere Cathedral. Im not massively religious at all, but I was gobsmacked by this building. The Architecture was just second to none. You won’t see many a building like this still standing in the modern era.

Back at Hotel des Savoies, and a Power shower later. A quick 6 hour nap proved to be the best bed we had slept in so far across Europe. We both woke up feeling very refreshed, which was a good thing as we decided a 7 hour drive to Andorra for our next-stop off was a good Idea!?
